Minutes  of   the  1st Meeting  of  the Second  Bureau  of  the  Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Housing and Urban Development (APMCHUD)

 The 1st Meeting of the newly constituted Second Bureau was held at the IRIB Convention Centre at Tehran on 14th May, 2008 during the Second Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference.

Chairing the First meeting of the Second Bureau of the Asia Pacific Ministerial Conference on Housing and Urban Development (APMCHUD), the Chairperson H.E. Md. Saeedi Kia, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Islamic Republic of Iran, welcomed the newly elected members of the Bureau and expressed his confidence for jointly working towards achieving the vision set by APMCHUD including the effective implementation of the Tehran Declaration and the action plan as formulated during the second conference of the APMCHUD.

 The Chairman H.E. Mr. Saeedi Kia expressed his deep appreciation for the intensive work and substantial contribution made by the 1st Bureau of APMCHUD under the chairpersonship of H.E. Kumari Selja, Minister of Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, Government of India.  He felt confident that the 2nd Bureau would continue to make efforts in making the APMCHUD a vibrant body and effectively contributing towards addressing the major challenges of sustainable urbanization in the Asia Pacific region. 

The Chairperson indicated that this meeting of the Bureau was an introductory meeting to welcome the members and to brief them on the status of activities and the next meeting would have a detailed discussion on the modalities of operationalising the Tehran Declaration and the Action Plan as adopted in the APMCHUD Conference at Tehran.  The Bureau decided to hold the second meeting of the new Bureau tentatively during the last 10 days of August, 2008.   The Chairperson informed the members that the next Bureau Meeting could be held on the invitation of any of the member country and accordingly invited the countries to send in their offer to host the Second Meeting to the Chief Coordinator of the Bureau, Mr. Sunil Kumar Singh at an early date so that the schedule for the second meeting could be finalized and communicated to the other members as quickly as possible.

 The agenda for the next meeting would be finalized by the Secretariat and the Chairperson invited all the members of the Bureau to send in any agenda item to the Chief Coordinator of the Bureau, Mr. Sunil Kumar Singh, which they deem necessary to be considered by the Bureau so as to finalise the agenda for the second Bureau meeting for circulation to the members.

 Concluding the meeting, the Chairperson thanked H.E. Kumari Selja, the Chairperson of the 1st Bureau for her significant contribution to the APMCHUD and hoped that the new Bureau would further strengthen the initiative and take suitable action towards implementing the Tehran Declaration and the Action Plan. 

It was also decided that the minutes of the Bureau Meeting be put up on the APMCHUD Website and comments of the members, if any, may be forwarded to the Chief Coordinator of the Bureau, Mr. Sunil Kumar Singh within a fortnight.
